Method
- Prepare chocolate cake mix according to package instructions. Add espresso powder for enhanced flavor if using.
- Bake in a 9x13 pan and remove when done. While still warm, poke holes all over the cake using the handle of a wooden spoon.
- Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, followed by caramel sauce. Let it soak in.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours, or overnight, to allow flavors to blend and cake to chill.
- Spread whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake. Sprinkle chocolate chips or toffee bits on top just before serving.
- Slice and serve cold. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator.
Notes
Variations: Try peanut butter chips, crushed Oreos, or strawberry puree in place of caramel. Chill overnight for best texture. Garnish just before serving to maintain crunch.
