  • 8 slices thick-cut bread such as Texas toast or thick sourdough
  • 2 tbsp butter softened, or use olive oil
  • 8 slices cheese cheddar, mozzarella, Swiss, or your choice
  • 4 slices ham or turkey, chicken, or bacon

  • pesto optional spread

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Spread butter or brush olive oil on one side of each bread slice.
  3. Place bread, butter-side down, on a baking sheet.
  4. Layer with cheese slices and desired protein (ham, turkey, chicken, or bacon).
  5. Add optional toppings like tomato, onion, spinach, or pesto if desired.
  6. Top with another cheese slice if you want extra gooeyness.
  7. Bake for 8–12 minutes until cheese is melted and bread edges are golden.
  8. Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for a crispier top. Watch carefully!
  9. Serve warm, with salad or soup if desired.

Notes

Customize your melts with BBQ chicken, pesto and tomato, or even make it a breakfast melt with bacon and fried egg. Watch the broiler closely to avoid burning!
