- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
- Fold in the melted dark chocolate until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes. Let cool completely.
- For frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder until fluffy. Fold in the sliced strawberries.
- Place one cake layer on a plate, spread frosting, and add another layer. Cover the entire cake with remaining frosting.
- Decorate with chocolate shavings and chocolate-covered strawberries. Chill for 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Try adding a touch of coffee to the batter to deepen the chocolate flavor. Chill your strawberries before decorating to prevent bleeding. This cake tastes even better the next day.
