Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Hand or stand mixer

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. Fold in the melted dark chocolate until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes. Let cool completely.
  7. For frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder until fluffy. Fold in the sliced strawberries.
  8. Place one cake layer on a plate, spread frosting, and add another layer. Cover the entire cake with remaining frosting.
  9. Decorate with chocolate shavings and chocolate-covered strawberries. Chill for 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Try adding a touch of coffee to the batter to deepen the chocolate flavor. Chill your strawberries before decorating to prevent bleeding. This cake tastes even better the next day.
