Ingredients

Sloppy Joe Sauce
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • salt & pepper to taste
Garlic Bread
  • 1 loaf French bread sliced thick
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella optional

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet

Method

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown the ground beef for 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper. Cook until softened, stirring occasionally.
  3. Stir in garlic, tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–12 minutes until thickened.
  4. In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley. Spread on sliced French bread.
  5. Toast bread in oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, or until golden. Optionally, top with cheese and melt until bubbly.
  6. Spoon sloppy joe mixture generously onto garlic bread slices. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

You can prep the beef mixture in advance and reheat before serving. Try it with turkey for a lighter option or add jalapeños for a spicy twist.
