Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon optional
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract pure
  • 1 tsp almond extract optional
Topping
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Cookie Cutters
  • Baking Sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
  6. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into festive shapes using cookie cutters.
  7. Transfer cookies to prepared baking sheets, spacing about 1 inch apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges just begin to turn golden.
  9. Cool cookies on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Dust cooled cookies with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

If the dough becomes too soft to handle, refrigerate it for 15–20 minutes. You can also customize these cookies with citrus zest or dip them in chocolate for added flair.
