- Brush the inside of each bun with melted butter. Heat a skillet over medium-low and toast the buns buttered-side down for 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
- Cook the sausages using your preferred method (grill, pan-sear, or boil). For best results, pan-sear over medium heat for 4–5 minutes per side.
- Place one sausage in each toasted bun.
- Layer your toppings: start with mayo (or spicy mayo), then mustard, a drizzle of ketchup (if using), followed by onion, bell pepper, relish, and cheddar cheese.
- Finish with a pinch of smoked paprika or chili powder if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
