Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Add-ins
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips semi-sweet or milk chocolate
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows optional

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Electric mixer
  • Wire Rack
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually stir dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips and optional marshmallows.
  5. Drop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 9–11 minutes, until edges are set and centers are soft. Cool on sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can improve texture and flavor. Store cookies in an airtight container with a slice of bread to keep them soft. Freeze dough or baked cookies for later use.
