Ingredients

Burger Patties
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20)
  • salt and pepper to taste
Assembly
  • 4 burger buns split
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese or preferred cheese
  • butter or oil for toasting buns
  • lettuce, tomato, red onion optional toppings
  • mayo, mustard, ketchup optional condiments

Equipment

  • Grill or Skillet

Method

  1. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into ¾-inch thick patties. Press gently in the center to prevent puffing. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Preheat your grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patties on and cook for 4–5 minutes on the first side without pressing them.
  3. Flip the patties, add a slice of cheese to each, and cover the grill or pan. Cook another 2–3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked through.
  4. While patties cook, lightly butter the buns and toast them on the grill or pan until golden.
  5. Assemble the burgers by spreading condiments on the buns, then layering lettuce, tomato, and onion if desired. Top with the cheesy burger patty and close with the bun top.

Notes

Customize your burger with bacon, mushrooms, jalapeños, or different cheeses. You can also substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
