- Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon and leave drippings in the skillet.
- Add onions and garlic to the skillet and sauté until soft and fragrant.
- Transfer sautéed onions and garlic to the crockpot. Add chopped cabbage on top, then sprinkle cooked bacon over everything.
- Pour chicken broth over the cabbage. Add smoked paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Toss lightly to distribute.
- Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours until cabbage is tender.
- Stir in 2 tablespoons of butter just before serving for extra richness.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and use vegetable broth. You can also add other vegetables like carrots, bell peppers, or kale for extra flavor and nutrition.
