Main Ingredients
  • 1 medium head green cabbage chopped
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 3-4 slices bacon thick-cut, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter

Method

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon and leave drippings in the skillet.
  2. Add onions and garlic to the skillet and sauté until soft and fragrant.
  3. Transfer sautéed onions and garlic to the crockpot. Add chopped cabbage on top, then sprinkle cooked bacon over everything.
  4. Pour chicken broth over the cabbage. Add smoked paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Toss lightly to distribute.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours until cabbage is tender.
  6. Stir in 2 tablespoons of butter just before serving for extra richness.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and use vegetable broth. You can also add other vegetables like carrots, bell peppers, or kale for extra flavor and nutrition.
