Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 pounds sweet potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup butter salted or unsalted
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker
  • Potato Masher
  • Peeler

Method

  1. Wash, peel, and cube the sweet potatoes. Cut them into even chunks for uniform cooking.
  2. Add sweet potatoes to the crockpot. Top with butter, cream (or milk), brown sugar (or maple syrup), cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until potatoes are fork-tender.
  4. Once cooked, mash potatoes with a masher or beat with a hand mixer until smooth and creamy. Add more cream or butter as needed.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or salt. Add optional vanilla extract for a dessert-like finish.
  6. Keep warm in the slow cooker until ready to serve.

Notes

Make it your own with flavor variations like garlic and herbs for savory or marshmallows and pecans for a sweet holiday twist. Use coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
