- In a skillet, brown the ground beef or turkey over medium heat until fully cooked. Transfer to the slow cooker.
- In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until fragrant. Add to the slow cooker.
- Add drained beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce to the slow cooker.
- Sprinkle in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- If using, add optional flavor boosters like cocoa powder, beer or coffee, chipotle, and brown sugar.
- Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours.
- Once cooked, ladle the chili into bowls and serve with toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, or cilantro.
