- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- If using fresh green beans, steam or parboil them for 5–7 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain well. If using frozen, thaw and drain excess water.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder or nutmeg.
- Gently fold in green beans and mushrooms. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish.
- Smooth the top and sprinkle fried onions evenly over the surface.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until bubbling and golden brown. Broil for 2–3 minutes if extra crispiness is desired.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Customize with added cheese, sautéed mushrooms, or use a homemade white sauce for a lighter option. You can also top with toasted breadcrumbs for a fresh take. Great for prepping ahead and refrigerating before baking.
