Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups green beans fresh or frozen, trimmed
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk or plant-based milk
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms optional but recommended
  • 1 cup fried onions or crispy onions, for topping
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • garlic powder or nutmeg optional pinch

Equipment

  • Baking Dish
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If using fresh green beans, steam or parboil them for 5–7 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain well. If using frozen, thaw and drain excess water.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder or nutmeg.
  4. Gently fold in green beans and mushrooms. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish.
  5. Smooth the top and sprinkle fried onions evenly over the surface.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until bubbling and golden brown. Broil for 2–3 minutes if extra crispiness is desired.
  7. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Customize with added cheese, sautéed mushrooms, or use a homemade white sauce for a lighter option. You can also top with toasted breadcrumbs for a fresh take. Great for prepping ahead and refrigerating before baking.
