For the Chicken:
- 2 large chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces 🍗
- 1 cup all-purpose flour 🌾
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon salt 🧂
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder 🧄
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 1 egg 🥚
- ½ cup water
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the Honey Sauce:
- ⅓ cup honey 🍯
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons ketchup 🍅
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg and water together.
- Dip chicken pieces into the wet mixture, then coat them in the dry flour mixture.
- Heat oil in a pan to 350°F (175°C) and fry chicken until golden brown and crispy. Drain on a paper towel.
- In a saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, ketchup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer.
- Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens.
- Toss the crispy chicken in the sauce until well coated.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve immediately!
Notes
- For extra crispiness, double-fry the chicken by frying it once at 325°F (163°C) and then again at 375°F (190°C).
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add ½ teaspoon of chili flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice, fried rice, or stir-fried vegetables.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in an oven or air fryer for best results.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and tamari instead of soy sauce.
