Description

This Crispy Honey Chicken is a perfect combination of crunch and sweetness! Tender chicken pieces are coated in a light, crispy batter, then tossed in a sticky, flavorful honey sauce. It’s a quick and delicious meal that pairs beautifully with rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 2 large chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces 🍗
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour 🌾
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt 🧂
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder 🧄
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 egg 🥚
  • ½ cup water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Honey Sauce:

  • ⅓ cup honey 🍯
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup 🍅
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • In another bowl, whisk the egg and water together.
  • Dip chicken pieces into the wet mixture, then coat them in the dry flour mixture.
  • Heat oil in a pan to 350°F (175°C) and fry chicken until golden brown and crispy. Drain on a paper towel.
  • In a saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, ketchup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer.
  • Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens.
  • Toss the crispy chicken in the sauce until well coated.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve immediately!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-fry the chicken by frying it once at 325°F (163°C) and then again at 375°F (190°C).
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add ½ teaspoon of chili flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed rice, fried rice, or stir-fried vegetables.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in an oven or air fryer for best results.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and tamari instead of soy sauce.
